This Old Convent was founded in 1334 by the Franciscan Order. Placed at the hillside of a hill, dominating the river Ebro and Miranda de Ebro's city , it was during centuries a center dedicated to the cult, the novitiate and the study.From the beginning of its construction, the participation in the works of basque, riojanos and mirandeses people, allowed that the building should take representative elements of the traditional construction of the three regions that delimit Miranda de Ebro’s villa. |

In the XVII century, the Convent was for the first time in its history, Hostelry and Hospital of pilgrims, situation that was repeated in the War of the Independence, during which, the library of the building was devastated by a fire.
In 1885 a ministerial order declared the monasteries and males' convents extinct, going on to private hands. In the year 1880, the Community of “ Sagrados Corazones” received keys of this ruined Convent and thanks to the great effort of the congregation, it passed to be one of the most emblematic buildings of Miranda's city.

Nowadays " Hostelería el Convento ", is one of the singular enclosures linked to the art and to the most important history of the North of Castilla. The recent recovery (April 1996), for tourist use of this building, supposes for the traveler the possibility of enjoying an environment calm and quiet in one of the zones of Spain where major rooting has the traditional gastronomy. |
